Micro Credit

Teach people how to fish, by first giving them a few fish.

This project provides information on how to start and manage a small business. You get a loan and pay it back, to allow others to borrow and the cycle continues.

Access to financial services is crucial for economic development. However, poor and smallholders have been neglected by traditional banks for a long time. Microcredit is a development model to provide loans to the poor who have no or little collateral. As YDA we see microcredit as a solution to many of the problems of rural areas. Over time there has been a shift in the objectives of rural development. Rural development nowadays is about an overall improvement of the human quality of life in terms of economic, social, political, and environmental, issues. Access to microcredit has a positive impact on three dimensions of sustainable rural development; social, economic, and environmental. Microcredit helps in the alleviation of poverty, employment, entrepreneurship, higher productivity from agriculture, women empowerment, gender equality, reduced rural outmigration, better health and education, green entrepreneurship, and adoption of modern technology/inputs in agriculture.

Education

Education Centre

Can you imagine having a center of hope close by, where you can go and find people ready to listen to you and help you with your struggles? We envision a modern sanctuary home for the youth and a place where dreams come true. An education centre in the heart of Kenya, teaching young adults practical and spiritual skills to take the day.

This education center is a long life dream for Lincolin, the founder of YDA; to build a center of incubation, a home for young people to come and find equipped facilities, from the library to a digital center where they can access the internet and online studies. We desire to make this fact a reality for the rural youth of Africa.

Will you help us make this dream reality? Get in touch!

Education

financial capability program

Most households in rural Kenya do not discuss finances in their homes. We believe there is vital importance in learning how money works because it is a crucial part of breaking the cycle of poverty. We believe that doing the same thing while expecting different results will not bring change. That is why we use financial education as our first step toward breaking the cycle of poverty. We teach our students about tracking their income and expenses, budgeting, and saving.

This basic approach helps us evaluate an individual situation and walk with them, by mentoring, awareness events, and training for young adults who want to manage their finances better.

With the program, we have the raw data that is used to help each individual to better in their situation. For more information about this program or if you would like to partner with us by giving the lessons, please feel free to contact us through our website.

Health

Sanitary towels during School exams

Pads for girls ensure that they can attend school and grow to become empowered women with opportunities!

At the end of every calendar year, primary and secondary school have their end-year exam. It’s an important exam that determines your academic future in the coming year. A lot of girls from poor homes can not afford sanitary towels. Some are unable to sit for their exams due to their periods.

We support the young people during the examination period by providing a package of personal hygiene, which contains all the necessities for a lady during her period days. We also use this time to motivate them and offer moral support.
